New and Revised Group Rules

E-bikes For People Over 50

Clairification of Facebook Group Rules

(Updated Feb. 11th 2024 with explanations)

Group rules are implemented to improve and protect our community members experience. The Administrators of the group have worked hard over the past three years to provide a forum nearly free of spam, porn, and other objective content. We consider "E-bikes For People Over 50" to be one of the best and most informative groups amongst all groups on the Meta platform. We have done this at no cost to anyone except ourselves because of our personal passion for e-bikes, and the fun and health benefits e-biking offers to seniors.

The majority of our rules are common sense and require no clarification to follow or understand. They include being kind and courteous, no hate speech or bullying, respect everyone's privacy, staying on topic, and having a profile picture to reduce spam and anonymity. Please refrain from turning off comments. Let the conversations go where they go. This is not a safe space for one-sided debates. Freedom of expression is welcomed in our group and everyone deserves to be heard. If someone posts inappropriate comments, you can report the comment to the administrators and they will delete the comment and make a determination to resolve the inappropriate behavior.

The rule with the most misinterpretation and misunderstanding is the rule regarding posting links. As everyone knows we aggressively delete posts and comments with links to purchase products and services. There have been a number of group members become upset when we delete their link to a product when they are innocently posting a link to help other members find products they have personally used and recommend. Our position on this is simple, we will not allow other people to profit from our work creating and maintaining this group. There is no method available to us to disseminate between someone innocently posting a purchase link to help someone vs someone abusing the privilege for personal profit. Therefore, we have always banned purchase links.

Recently Facebook has implemented a new badge feature labeled "Group Expert".  To qualify as an expert you must be someone who has deep knowledge of e-bikes and the e-bike industry, and this would include Local Bike Shops, Technicians, Affiliates, Manufacturers and Distributors. Many of these people are currently in our group and generously give us their knowledge and expertise with no compensation. As much as we feel we deserve compensation for creating this forum, so do these experts. One of the privileges of a 'group badge' will be the ability to post purchase links to their products/services to help compensate them for their expertise. (Note: Premium members of our website are automictically pre-qualified for "Group Expert" status as you are required to be an industry professional in order to become a premium member. You DO NOT have to be a premium member to obtain a Group Expert badge. Group Experts are invited to accept a group expert badge at the discretion of the group administrators.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Only "Group Experts" will be allowed to post purchase links and all non-group expert links will continue to be deleted. All "Group Expert" links must be in the Facebook group 'comments section' only. Only administrators are allowed to post purchase links in the feed.

We hope this clarifies our position and clears up any uncertainty of posting links in the Facebook group.

Looking forward to a great year, and happy e-biking!
